About Me

Celebrancy Background

I am a retired senior Army Officer and business owner living in Shropshire. During my career, I have attended funeral ceremonies that failed to reflect the true life of the deceased nor of the final wishes of the families.

It is therefore, my aim and wish to support bereaved families in delivering the kind of service and ceremony that best reflects their memories of the deceased.

I started as a Civil Celebrant in 2018 having achieved the NOCN Level 3 Diploma in Funeral Celebrancy and am now a member of the Institute of Civil Funerals. I have also adopted the Funeral Celebrant Accord.

As an individual, I am not guided by any religious beliefs or other preconceived ideas on death and mourning.  (Note: I am a Civil Celebrant rather than ‘Humanist’ who follow different beliefs and guidelines).

I am fully insured for all Professional and Public Liabilities.

Professional Background

My first career was as an Army Officer taking early retirement as a Major in 1994. During my time with the forces I saw active service on various campaigns as well as held command and staff appointments. I had a thoroughly enjoyable career and gained various professional and adventurous sporting qualifications along with interesting postings around the world.

After  retiring, I set up my own company initially training Presentation Skills to corporate management and in recent years, as an Audio-Visual Integration Consultant and Specialist. During that time my company received a number of national awards for our projects and in the IT Training Awards of 2010, I was awarded the Gold Prize as ‘European Freelance Trainer of the Year’. I have also been a Fellow of both the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development and the Learning & Performance Institute.

Personal

I am in my mid Sixties and live in a village near Shrewsbury with my partner Sharleen, our Miniature Poodle and four agility competition winning Jackapoo’s.

I enjoy motorbikes, currently riding as a Volunteer Emergency Blood Biker and light aircraft flying where I have also been involved with the Bader Braves’ – part of the Douglas Bader Foundation,  piloting disabled children on special flights.
